Joshua A. Aldort

Joshua A. Aldort is Of Counsel with the Chicago office of Butler Pappas. Mr. Aldort's litigation practice includes commercial litigation, director and officer liability, general and professional liability defense, unfair competition, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, on-line advertising law, and trade secrets litigation. Mr. Aldort's transactional practice includes trademark and copyright prosecution, counseling, negotiating and drafting domestic and international manufacturing, licensing, distribution, sales, and marketing agreements.

In one case, Mr. Aldort obtained a complete defense verdict after a week-long jury trial in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, involving a dispute over a trademark. The plaintiff, the manufacturer of novelty toys, sued one of its former distributors for the distributor's marketing of products with a confusingly similar name. The plaintiff sued for breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, cybersquatting, false advertising, and committing fraud on the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The jury and the Court found for the defendant on all monetary and equitable matters, which allowed the defendant to continue to sell its products.

Mr. Aldort received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Purdue University in 1992. He then went on to receive his juris doctorate with a Certificate of International and Comparative Law from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology in 1996. While in college and law school, Mr. Aldort studied in London and served as a Solicitor's Clerk and a Barrister's Pupil, in which he assisted defending clients in courts throughout London.

Mr. Aldort is a Chick Evans Memorial Scholarship Recipient. He also serves on the executive committee of Leap Learning Systems, a Chicago-based non-profit organization whose mission is to improve education in underserved communities.
