Kathy J. Maus
Kathy J. Maus is a partner of Butler Pappas, active in the firm's bad faith, casualty, and first and third party insurance coverage practices. Ms. Maus received her Bachelor of Science degree in Risk Management & Insurance from Florida State University in 1986. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from Florida State University in 1991. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Maus served as a licensed Commercial Liability Claims Adjuster with a national insurance company.
Ms. Maus is a Board Certified Trial Lawyer. She is licensed in the State of Florida, in each of Florida's three Federal District Courts within the Eleventh Circuit, and with the United States Supreme Court. Her professional memberships include the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where she serves on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee of the Insurance Law Committee and on DRI's Membership Committee. She is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, where she serves as Chair of the Casualty Committee and as Chair of the Diversity Committee, The Florida Bar, the Tallahassee Bar and the Florida Defense Lawyers Associations. She is also a member and Past President of the Tallahassee Women Lawyers. In addition, she was appointed to a two year term, commencing July 1999, on the Florida Supreme Court Bar Admission's Committee, and is Vice Chair of the Florida's Voluntary Bar Liaison Committee.
Ms. Maus has served as a panelist and speaker at numerous seminars on issues including casualty defense litigation, first and third party coverage issues, bad faith issues, and ethical concerns in the industry. She has also authored several articles for publication on bad faith and first and third party insurance coverage matters.
